Feisty Ferret Home Review for Rats

Hi guys,

Today I will be reviewing my cage, the Prevue Hendryx 485 Pet Products Feisty Ferret Home with Stand, Black Hammertone (FF). Overall, I think cage makes a great home and a cost-effective alternative to those who would like a Critter Nation (CN) but can't afford the price.

General Specs

  • -Product Dimensions: 31 x 20 x 54 inches with 7/8-inch wire spacing
  • -Three platforms: 2 plastic trays and 1 wired bottom second floor
  • -Includes a bottom shelf that can be used for storing treats and toys.
  • -According to the rat cage calculator, this cage can hold up to 9 rats. Currently, I have 3 rats in the cage and its very spacious for them

Long Distance Rat Family, Our story

Hi Reader :)

My name is Mai and I love my rats. Crazy thing about my rattie story is that I have two rat families, one in Seattle, WA and another in Hilo, HI. Kevin, my hubby, is currently in Seattle working on his Ph.D. When I was still living there, we decided to adopt our first ratties.

The beige one on the left is Teemo (any League fans out there?) and the rex cutie on the right is Twitch (cause we are). We were absolutely in  smitten with these ratties.

Look how tiny they were!

Unfortunately, being beginner rat enthusiasts, we bought our lovelies from a petstore. Little Twitch ended up being too little and too compromised for the vet to work her healing magic. And passed away before we got to see him grow up. We were devastated. I haven't seen Kevin or myself cry as much as we did for such a little creature. The thing about rats, is that they find special places in our hearts. Rest in peace lil' Twitch.

The day after Twitch's passing, we noticed how depressed Teemo was so we decided to bring home a friend for him. Our Mr. Sassypants, Tibbers. He is so cute, but so sassy.

And Teemo and Tibbers have been BFFs ever since.

Fast forward one year. After graduating from college, I packed up my things and moved back home. This meant that I had to leave my boys on the mainland. After having rats for about a year, I felt so empty without them running around my room that the first thing I did was extended our ratty family with these two fellows.

Teddy is a saimese red eye boy, while Barnaby is a black hooded.

Then, GGMOR (gotta get more rats) struck me, and I couldn't resist the urge to pick up this baby boy. Meet Dewey, a silver berkshire.

In summary, here are my two rattie families.
